The Curriculum Framework, the curriculum, the syllabus and the Textbook: Introduction and Comparative Study

 Many of you may have heard of or read the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005 or the Bihar Curriculum Framework (BCF) 2008. Can you explain what they contain? 

Let's first begin explaining 'curriculum the term framework'. A curriculum framework is a policy document that specifies the nature and direction of education in a particular society. It may be designed for the national or state level. It contains the following: 

• aim ass and objectives of education,

* contents and methods of teaching-learning.

 • evaluation principles or techniques.

"Curriculum' is often mistaken for 'syllabus'. Curriculum is a more abstract category than syllabus. It is concerned with all the different aspects that make up the learning experience as a whole. The syllabus is a narrower term that refers to the specific content of teaching, which includes periodic evaluative mechanisms like the duration of a course examination. The syllabus addresses questions like what to teach and how to teach it. The syllabus is further concretised in the form of textbooks. Textbooks thus give an operational framework to a curriculum, determine the direction of the teaching learning process and quite often define the scope of education.

In order to understand what NCF 2005 and BCF 2008 contain and how they are different, it will be uesful to look at Table 1 and Table 2 below:

आप में से कई लोगों ने नेशनल करिकुलम फ्रेमवर्क (NCF) 2005 या बिहार करिकुलम फ्रेमवर्क (BCF) 2008 के बारे में सुना या पढ़ा होगा। क्या आप बता सकते हैं कि उनमें क्या है?

 आइए सबसे पहले 'पाठ्यचर्या की रूपरेखा' की व्याख्या करना शुरू करें।  एक पाठ्यक्रम ढांचा एक नीति दस्तावेज है जो किसी विशेष समाज में शिक्षा की प्रकृति और दिशा को निर्दिष्ट करता है।  इसे राष्ट्रीय या राज्य स्तर के लिए डिजाइन किया जा सकता है।  इसमें निम्नलिखित शामिल हैं:

 • लक्ष्य गधा और शिक्षा के उद्देश्य,

 * शिक्षण-अधिगम की सामग्री और तरीके।

 • मूल्यांकन सिद्धांत या तकनीक।

 "पाठ्यक्रम' को अक्सर 'पाठ्यक्रम' के लिए गलत समझा जाता है। पाठ्यक्रम पाठ्यक्रम की तुलना में एक अधिक सार श्रेणी है। यह उन सभी विभिन्न पहलुओं से संबंधित है जो समग्र रूप से सीखने के अनुभव को बनाते हैं। पाठ्यक्रम एक संक्षिप्त शब्द है जो विशिष्ट सामग्री को संदर्भित करता है।  शिक्षण का, जिसमें पाठ्यक्रम परीक्षा की अवधि जैसे आवधिक मूल्यांकन तंत्र शामिल हैं। पाठ्यक्रम प्रश्नों को संबोधित करता है जैसे कि क्या पढ़ाना है और कैसे पढ़ाना है। पाठ्यक्रम को पाठ्यपुस्तकों के रूप में और अधिक संक्षिप्त किया जाता है। पाठ्यपुस्तकें इस प्रकार एक पाठ्यक्रम को एक परिचालन ढांचा प्रदान करती हैं  शिक्षण अधिगम प्रक्रिया की दिशा निर्धारित करते हैं और प्रायः शिक्षा के क्षेत्र को परिभाषित करते हैं।

       With regards to language teaching BCF 2008 follows the recommendations and suggestions of the NCF -2005. It clearly states:  The NCF-2005 calls for a constructivist approach to teaching and learning. where learners make sense of the world around them.
