 Aims and objectives of listening and speaking

1. Understand meaning of words, phrase and sentences in content.

2. Understand statements, questions and commands.

3. Follow oral instructions and directions.

4. Follow simple narrations and descriptions.

5. Grasp the substance and central idea of what is spoken.

6. Listen attentively in order to ask pertinent questions.

7. Produce speech  sounds which are intelligible to all listeners.

8. Use appropriate word stress, sentence stress and elementary intonation pattern.

9. Speak intelligibly while making statements, asking questions, giving instructions and reporting events,etc.

10. Put ideas in a proper sequence.

11. Evoke required response from the listeners.

12. Describe accurately what one observes  and experiences.

13. Use appropriate expressions in particular situations.

       With regards to language teaching BCF 2008 follows the recommendations and suggestions of the NCF -2005. It clearly states:  The NCF-2005 calls for a constructivist approach to teaching and learning. where learners make sense of the world around them. This is to be done through 'critical pedagogy which foregrounds questions of inequality and justice and enables learners to undertake transformative action.   It further states that  The vision of SSA is to enable children to develop language from a social context and use it for thought and expression in their daily lives.
